Ellington Connecticut Chamber of Commerce

The North Central CT Chamber of Commerce was originally founded in 1894 as the Thompsonville Board of Trade. The town of Thompsonville was one of only two locations to cross the Connecticut River between the cities of Springfield and Hartford, Connecticut. As a result, the town and region grew through the turn of the century. The industrial revolution brought the Bigelow Sanford Mills to the area and the growth explosion resulted in the birth of Enfield, Hazardville on the east side of the river and Suffield on the west side of the River. The Board of Trade then became the Enfield Businessman's Association. With the steady growth of population in the surrounding area, the Board of Trade was granted as Charter in 1947 as the Enfield Chamber of Commerce. A few years later and following the growth of Suffield, Somers and East Windsor, the name was changed to the North Central CT Chamber of Commerce. Over the next thirty years, Enfield became the thirteenth largest town in Connecticut based on population and together with its sister towns, continues to be a vibrant and growing region in Connecticut.
